BUILDING APPRENTICE APPLICATION INFORMATION:
Be an Ironworker Architectural & Ornamental Iron Workers Local 63
Architectural Iron Workers perform field fabrication & Installation
of: window walls, glass & metal rails, curtain walls, storefronts,
glass & metal doors, door hardware, stairs, scaffolds, chain link
fences, fire escapes, flag poles, guard rails, canopies & playground
equipment, skylights & vault doors and adjacent supports.
ARCHITECTURAL AND ORNAMENTAL IRON WORKERS LOCAL 63 APPLICATIONS
***Applications will be open year-round online and accepted/processed for the selection process as needed throughout the year. ***
MUST SUPPLY THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH APPLICATION:
- Your drivers license
- Your original High School Diploma, Transcripts or GED equivalent
- ACT WorkKeys® Assessment Score Report with Scale Score for: Applied Math, Workplace Documents and Graphic Literacy *test scores must be within one year from submitted application date*

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
- Must have a high school diploma or GED Equivalent
- Must pass an aptitude test (WorkKeys® Assessments for: Applied Math, Workplace Documents and Graphic Literacy)
- Must pass a drug screen
- Must pass a physical
- Must pass a HPE (Human Performance Evaluation) / agility test
- Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS TO THESE REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Once a quarter or as applicants are needed, applicants who submit the required documents and are within the top scores on the aptitude test will be rated and given all the information where and when to appear for an interview. Applicants will then be added to a ranked list based on their interview. Applicants will need to pass a drug screen, physical and physical agility evaluation to be eligible for employment. Applications are accepted year-round and applicants will be reviewed each quarter. Ranks will change as additional applications are received. Your name will remain on our list for 2 years, after 2 years you will need to reapply. You are responsible for notifying us here of any changes to your contact information or updates to your application.
At the time of indenture you must:
- Have a valid Driver’s license
- Have a reliable form of transportation
- Pass a drug test

ABILITIES

Recommended Preparatory Classes
- Any Shop Classes
- Mathematics classes
- Drafting
- Work Experience (Helpful but not necessary for acceptance)
- Familiarity with any type of construction
Working Conditions
Architectural Iron Workers work in all types of weather conditions and at various heights.
Length of Apprenticeship
- Four (4) years – Minimum of 5,600 – 8,000 hours of on-the-job training
- Apprentices attend school Twenty-Three (23) hours a month from September – May, on set evenings and weekends schedules tbd and announced annually. (Sample schedule here)
- Apprentices work five days a week receiving on-the-job training.
Wage Information
- 1st year 50% of journeyman’s wage
- 2nd year 60% of journeyman’s wage
- 3rd year 80% of journeyman’s wage
- 4th year 90% of journeyman’s wage
- Journey Level 100% of journeyman’s wage
- As of June 2024 the Average Journeyman’s wage rate is $57/Hr.
